The Canadian government announced on 21 October that it had awarded a CAD1.06 billion (USD1.05 billion) contract for comprehensive upgrades to the Canadian Army's LAV III combat vehicle fleet to General Dynamics Land Systems - Canada.
The project will modernise 550 vehicles with new survivability, mobility and firepower components that will keep the fleet up to
date until 2035, according to a General Dynamics statement. Work on the project is slated for completion in 2017.Company spokesman Ken Yamashita told Jane's that the upgrade would include the addition of blast-resistant double-V-hull (DVH) technology similar to that of the new hull structure that General Dynamics has begun building for some of the US Army's Stryker vehicles.
