Latest Gigabit Ethernet Data Multiplex System on USS Spruance Navalship

Boeing has announced that it has installed the first Gigabit Ethernet Data Multiplex System (GEDMS) on the USS Spruance (DDG 111), a newly constructed Arleigh Burke-Class guided-missile destroyer.
GEDMS is a data transfer network that provides a highly reliable, redundant, mission-critical network backbone to any ship in the U.S. Navy inventory. The Spruance was commissioned Oct. 1 during a ceremony at Naval Air Station Key West, Fla.

Dutch frigates to gain BMD capability

The Smart-L air search radars in the Royal Netherlands Navy's De Zeven Provinciën-class frigates are to be upgraded with an extended long-range (ELR) mode, the Dutch Ministry of Defence (MoD) announced on 26 September.
Costing a projected EUR250 million (USD340 million), the technology insertion will allow the four frigates to detect and track ballistic missiles up to an estimated range of 2,000 km.

New Raytheon Datalink Will Allow NATO Ships to Employ All Standard Missiles

Raytheon has completed design and testing of a prototype dual-band datalink that will enable interoperability between the Standard Missile family of interceptors and a wider variety of radars and ships.
"The dual-band datalink will allow for greatly expanded NATO participation in the European Phased Adaptive Approach," said Dr. Taylor Lawrence, president of Raytheon Missile Systems.

"This advancement bridges a critical technology gap in air defense interoperability between U.S. and allied nations."

Korea Navy Sign Contract of Raytheon Phalanx

Raytheon has signed a $65.5 million contract to deliver five Phalanx Block 1B Close-In Weapon Systems to the Republic of Korea Navy for the new Ulsan-1 class FFX ship program.
The direct commercial sale calls for the systems to be installed on the 2,300-ton frigate-class ships starting in April 2013, and represents Phalanx's largest sale to the ROK fleet.

"Phalanx is uniquely suited for the littoral environment in which the Korean fleet operates," said Rick Nelson, vice president of Raytheon Missile Systems' Naval Weapon Systems product line.
