IsraelDefense has learned that the new Rapid Intervention Vehicle, a patrol version of the "Storm 3" jeep, developed by Automotive Industries Ltd. (AIL), has recently entered into operational use.

As in the "Storm 3," the vehicle is based on the Chrysler chassis; beyond that there are many differences between the two. The rapid intervention vehicle is wider, but its height is only 1.65 meters
(as opposed to the 1.85 meters in the "Storm 3"). Despite the height variation, the wheelbase is higher than the normal patrol vehicle.

The vehicle has been designed specifically for effective transfer by helicopter. Its "casing" can be easily folded precisely for that purpose.

The new Rapid Intervention Vehicle has been developed by the AIL for use by foreign armies. The IDF has introduced it into operational use, at least at first, in a number of Special Forces units, such as the counter-terrorism unit "Arava."
