Indonesia will purchase 24 used F-16s and nine C-295s

The Indonesian air force is to receive 24 former US Air National Guard Lockheed Martin F-16 fighters and nine Dirgantara Indonesia (PTDI)/Airbus Military C-295 medium transports.

The plans were announced by defence minister Purnomo Yusgiantoro in a story posted by Indonesia's official news agency Antara.
The 24 Block 25 F-16s will be upgraded to the
enhanced Block 52 standard, said Yusgiantoro. He added that the deal has been approved by Indonesia's House of Representatives.

A US industry source said the F-16 sale will be conducted under the auspices of the Foreign Military Sales mechanism, and that the US Defense Security Cooperation Agency is preparing the deal's congressional notification.
A deal for nine C-295s is be worth $325 million, said Yusgiantoro. A memorandum of understanding has been signed with PTDI and the transports will join the air force by the first half of 2014.
