Elbit systems made a strategic decision to invest in developing the next generation of cockpit avionics for fighter and utility fixed-wing and rotorcraft platforms.
The Israeli company is in talks with Rockwell Collins and Honeywell about possible future cooperation on the new type of cockpit avionics.
According to Yoram Shmuely, joint general manger of Elbit’s aerospace division,
the new cockpit avionics and designs will integrate what the pilot sees through the cockpit windows with information obtained from sensors that operate in low-visibility conditions. The Elbit Systems CockpitNG—the next generation cockpit for fighter aircraft, helicopters, trainers and airlifters—is based on a sophisticated central large-area display (LAD), which includes all avionic components in one suite.
The CockpitNGis fully integrated with helmet-mounted and head-Up displays.
Elbit says that the new modular solution enhances mission performance, reduces aircrew workload, and can be customized to multiple platforms—thereby offering full multi-mission support for attack, emergency services, training and air support.
